MEET SABRINA!

Sabrina Bazzo is a dedicated mom, wife and community leader. She has served as a public health educator in San Diego for almost 30 years. Sabrina was elected on to the San Diego Unified School Board in November, 2020 and currently serves as President. She is a current member of the Audit and Finance Committee to ensure funding is being used responsibly by the school district. She also serves as a board member on the Visual and Performing Arts Foundation in order to support high quality arts education for all students. In addition, she served as a delegate for the California School Board Association from 2021-2022. Most recently Bazzo was asked to join the Executive Committee for the Council of Great City Schools (CGCS) which serves the largest urban school districts nationwide.

Bazzo came on to the board in the midst of the Covid shutdown. Shortly afterwards the superintendent, Cindy Martin, announced that she would be departing to serve as the U.S. Deputy Secretary of Education. Sabrina worked closely with her fellow board members and local public health experts to successfully and safely reopen schools while at the same time helping to coordinate a nationwide superintendent search. Bazzo also developed a volunteer student tutoring program during Covid with her friend, a retired principal from San Diego Unified. The program has now grown into a paid internship that includes leadership training for students at Mira Mesa High School who are tutoring local elementary students and also being offered the opportunity for college scholarships to become K-12 teachers in our local community.

Both of her daughters went to public school in Mira Mesa from K-12. She has been an active volunteer in her community for more than 20 years. Sabrina became a parent volunteer when her oldest daughter started kindergarten and went on to become PTA President at both the elementary and middle schools where her daughters attended. She then served as Mira Mesa High School Foundation President for 6 years as well as President of the Parent Booster Committee for 4 years. Sabrina also served on Student Site Council (SSC) and Student Governance Team (SGT) at the grade school, middle school and high school where she worked with staff to make important decisions regarding budget, student assessment goals and school guidelines. She has participated on multiple principal hiring selection committees.

Sabrina has been active in her community as well, serving on the Mira Mesa Town Council Board for several years. In 2016 she was recognized by this organization for her many efforts as Mira Mesa Volunteer of the Year.

Sabrina earned a Master of Arts in Public Health (M.P.H.) from San Diego State University and currently serves as executive administrator for San Diego Academy of Family Physicians, a non-profit medical society. In this role Sabrina works with healthcare leaders from across San Diego to provide quality medical education for Family Medicine Physicians in order to ensure better quality patient care.

Sabrina’s hard work and dedication both as a volunteer as well as in her professional career reflects her sincere interest in the whole child approach to education in order to help young people further themselves and their communities.
